South Africans can look forward to warmer conditions this week, with the bitter cold spell that affected much of the country now easing.
The latest temperature forecast issued by the South African Weather Service (SAWS) indicates a significant rise in daytime temperatures across all nine provinces for Tuesday, 18 August 2026.
In Gauteng, Johannesburg is expected to reach a pleasant 25°C, Pretoria 28°C, and Vereeniging 26°C, despite chilly early morning temperatures.
Warm conditions are also forecast for Mpumalanga, with Standerton expected to reach 28°C, Emalahleni 27°C, Ermelo 26°C, and Mbombela 24°C.
In Limpopo, maximum temperatures are expected to range between 26°C and 30°C, while North West residents can expect highs of between 25°C and 29°C. The Free State is also forecast to enjoy milder conditions, with daytime temperatures reaching 24°C to 25°C.
The Northern Cape is expected to remain one of the warmest parts of the country, with Upington forecast to reach 29°C and Springbok 28°C. In the Western Cape, Cape Town is expected to reach 19°C, while Vredendal could see temperatures climbing to 27°C.
Along the eastern coastline, temperatures are also set to improve. Gqeberha is forecast to reach 19°C, Mthatha 21°C, and Durban 24°C, while Ladysmith could experience a warm 29°C.
Although mornings will remain cold in many inland areas and rainy in the coastal ends, the latest forecast suggests that the severe winter conditions experienced in recent weeks have largely subsided, with much of the country expected to enjoy sunny and warmer afternoons throughout the week.
