The National Treasury has opened applications for its 2027 External Bursary Programme, offering financial assistance to South African students pursuing qualifications in critical and scarce skills.
The bursary aims to support academically strong students who are studying or intend to study full-time in fields including accounting, economics, finance and law at registered and accredited higher education institutions in South Africa.
The programme is open to South African citizens who will be in their third year of undergraduate studies, honours or master’s level in 2027.
Successful applicants will receive financial support covering registration fees, tuition, board examinations, accommodation, prescribed study material, editing costs and a monthly allowance.
According to the National Treasury, preference will be given to high-performing students with outstanding academic results.
Prospective applicants must download the official application form from the National Treasury website, complete it in full and upload the completed form to the e-Recruitment system under the “Curriculum Vitae” attachment section. Applicants should not upload a CV in place of the application form and must also submit all supporting documents listed on the form.
