The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed the payment dates for the COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant for May 2026.
According to SASSA, beneficiaries can expect their SRD grant payments between 21โ22 May 2026 and 27โ28 May 2026.
The agency has encouraged beneficiaries to regularly check their application and payment status to avoid confusion and delays.
SASSA Introduces WhatsApp Self-Service Channel
SASSA has also announced the introduction of a WhatsApp self-service channel for COVID-19 SRD beneficiaries.
The service is aimed at helping grant recipients access important information without the need to visit SASSA offices or contact the call centre.
The automated WhatsApp system will allow beneficiaries to:
- Access SRD-related information
- Check important updates
- Receive assistance quicker and more conveniently

SASSA said the new platform is part of efforts to improve service delivery and make information more accessible to grant beneficiaries across South Africa.
The agency also reminded applicants that SRD grants remain subject to verification checks and income thresholds. Applicants earning above the approved limit may not qualify for payment.
